Georgia woman jumps off bridge to avoid truck

GAINESVILLE, Ga.

That was the reality a 22-year-old nursing student faced after getting into a car accident. It happened on a four story bridge northeast of Atlanta.

Bianca Vera said she was inspecting the damage, when she saw a semi bearing down on her. Her options were to jump or get crushed, so she jumped.

"I felt my legs were broken because they were in so much pain," said Vera. "I had to end up going on my back, because I was drinking in too much water. When I was swimming, I thought my body was going to give out. And I was getting dizzy, and I thought I was going to lose consciousness at any minute."

After 45 minutes in the water, she managed to crawl onto the shore. Vera had cracked vertebrae and severe bruising to her legs, but is expected to be released from the hospital in the next few days.
