Marion Cotillard has reportedly joined the cast of "The Dark Knight Rises," the third Batman movie by Christopher Nolan, who directed the actress in the thriller "Inception."
Cotillard, a French Oscar-winning actress who is also pregnant with her first child, Nolan and the film's studio, Warner Bros. Films, have not commented on the matter.
Cotillard signed onto the project on Saturday in Paris and will start shooting the movie in London in June, according to People magazine, which carried the report. It is unclear what character she is set to play.
"The Dark Knight Rises" is set for release on July 20, 2012. It was confirmed in mid-January that Anne Hathaway will star in "The Dark Knight Rises" as Selina Kyle, whose alter-ego is Catwoman. In the DC comic books, the character is the love interest of Bruce Wayne, who masquerades as the superhero Batman and who is played by Christian Bale.
Tom Hardy has been cast as the villain Bane, an escaped convict who gains superhuman strength due to a series of drug experiments. Hardy, a 33-year-old British actor, also starred in Nolan's 2010 thriller "Inception."
Cotillard won an Oscar for Best Actress in 2007 for her performance as Edith Piaf in "La Vie en Rose." It was reported in January that she and French actor and director Guillaume Canet were expecting their first baby. Their child is due in April, People reported. The couple met while filming the 2003 film "Love Me if You Dare" and began dating in 2007.
