NASA unveils images from rendezvous w/ comet

February 15, 2011 12:00:00 AM PST
The public is getting its first look at images from a Valentine's Day rendezvous high up in the sky. NASA's Stardust spacecraft flew within 110 miles of a comet 200 million miles from earth.

Stardust took pictures of the Comet Tempel 1 and beamed them back to Jet Propulsion Labs in Pasadena. It was the second time the comet has been viewed up close.

Stardust's cameras captured images of a crater made by a NASA probe that collided with Tempel 1 in 2005.
