The Center for Science in the Public Interest says the artifical coloring used in colas may cause cancer in animals.

A consumer watchdog group is urging the government to ban a type of caramel coloring used in cola products.

The Center for Science in the Public Interest says the artificial brown coloring used in colas and products like beer and soy sauce is made by reacting sugars and ammonia sulfites under high pressure.

They claim an ingredient in the coloring is known to cause cancer in animals.

The group is calling for the Food and Drug Administration to place warning labels on products with these ingredients.
