"Chicago Code" actress Jennifer Beals will not be competing for the mirror ball trophy any time soon.
She tells People magazine that she turned down an offer to appear on the series this season. "I am not a dancer," the 47-year-old told the magazine. "They asked me and I said 'no.' You could back up a truck to my door filled with cash and I wouldn't do it."
Beals recalled a visit she made to the ballroom back in 2008 when longtime friend and "The L Word" co-star Marlee Matlin competed on the show. Matlin finished in sixth place that season.
"The sound of the audience is so loud and the energy in there is so intense. I wanted to start crying just in feeling for her," said Beals. She then added she joked with the deaf actress "'You don't know how lucky you are you can't hear this.' The noise level is so intense and people's excitement level is so intense. I could never. I'm not that kind of a performer."
Beals might be best known for her work in the 1983 dance film "Flashdance" where she played Alex Owens, an 18-year-old welder who aspires to get in a prestigious dance school. However, Beals had several dance doubles for the dance sequences, most of which were performed by Marine Jahan, a French actress.
"Dancing With the Stars" is set to return for season 12 on Monday, March 21 and the new season's cast will be announced live on Monday, February 28 during "The Bachelor."
