Tim Allen has signed on to star in an unnamed multi-camera comedy pilot for ABC, the working title for the project is "The Last Days of Man," according to Entertainment Weekly.

The pilot is said to focus on a man who is "struggling for his manhood" in a world that has become dominated by women. It will be produced by 20th Century Fox TV and Lost Marbles. The pilot script was penned by Emmy-winner Jack Burditt who previously worked on "The Mike O'Malley Show" and "Inside Schwartz."

Allen played the patriarch in the hugely popular ABC sitcom "Home Improvement" from 1991 until 1999. In "Home Improvement," Allen's character Tim and his wife raised their three sons while Tim "The Tool Man" Taylor hosted a TV show focusing on home improvement.

Allen has kept busy voicing Buzz Lightyear in the "Toy Story" franchise and playing Santa Clause in "The Santa Clause" trilogy.

Tim Allen was one of the actors who was roasted by Ricky Gervais when he hosted the 2011 Golden Globe Awards. During Allen's introduction, Gervais spoke the praises of the actor's "Toy Story 3" co-star Tom Hanks and dissed Tim Allen. The actors had their revenge when Hanks said, "We recall when Ricky Gervais was a slightly chubby but very kind comedian," and Allen responded, "Neither of which he is now."

On top of the new show, Allen will star in "Amigos" with George Lopez and is writing and starring in a movie for Walt Disney Pictures called "Brothers."

In the late 1970s, Allen, then known as Timothy Allen Dick, spent 28 months in prison after he was arrested on felony drug charges for being in possession of 1.4 pounds of cocaine. After his release at age 29, he started doing stand-up comedy regularly, got married, changed his name to Tim Allen and pursued an acting career.
