Preparations begin for the Academy Awards

HOLLYWOOD

Things are going to happen fast over the next few days. On Tuesday work will get into high gear, getting the street ready for the red carpet arrivals for the /*Academy Awards*/.

Tucked away in a tent just off Hollywood Boulevard, the giant Oscar statuettes are being prepped for the big day.

Along the street outside the Kodak Theater, traffic continues to flow but the transformation has begun. Workers have put up fences and bleachers for the lucky fans who will get to watch the stars walk the red carpet.

For tourists visiting the red carpet, it's fun to see the preparations.

"It's very exciting," said Sree Niak who is visiting from New Jersey with his family. "The weather is definitely different here, and so much excitement because of the Oscars. Everyone is talking about it."

"It's pretty neat," said Santa Cruz resident Josh Skeen. "This is our first time to walk all the stars and see all this stuff. I wish we were coming next weekend and see all the big stars."

The Skeen family did get some cool pictures outside the Kodak Theater.

"It's exciting to get them excited," said Gypsey Skeen. "Of course they all want to be actors and actresses, so it is certainly inspiring."

"I don't take very good pictures said New Jersey resident Marlene Mihaich. She hopes to capture a special shot to show her friends. "I'm going to try. I am going to take a shot of the Oscars to bring home."

There will be lots of good photo opportunities this week. The portion of Hollywood Boulevard between and Highland Avenue and Orange Drive will shut down at 10 p.m. Monday and it won't reopen until the following Tuesday after the Academy Awards.
