Ventura Police responded to a report of a burglary Sunday at a residence on the 7400 block of Loma Vista Rd. in Ventura.

Some time between 12:30 a.m. and 7 a.m., an unknown suspect entered the residence and stole two purses containing keys, credit cards and cell phones.

The resident was not awake while the burglary took place. The victim was not injured in the incident.

The victim told police the suspect entered the residence through an unlocked garage side door.

According to the Ventura Police Dept., officers have responded to 82 residential burglaries in 2011. Most of those happened during daylight hours, according to police.

Four of the burglaries were "hot prowl" incidents, indicating residents were home during the crimes.

The department issued a news release to remind area residents to lock all exterior doors to their residences, even while at home.
