Kellie Pickler was set to have a big wedding to husband Kyle Jacobs but ended up ditching the elaborate ceremony to elope instead.
Now Pickler explains to Ellen DeGeneres why she gave up her big plans. "We were almost finished with the wedding planning, And every time we got to the guest list, it was like, 'Oh my God, I hate half these people.'" Pickler said during her appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres show on Wednesday.
Pickler, 24, and Jacobs, 37, ended up eloping on the beach in Antigua on New Year's Day. The two became engaged in June 2010.
"All we did was I packed the wedding dress, we packed him an outfit and we flew there. We didn't know what kind of cake we were going to get, we didn't have our food picked out," Pickler says. "We totally just put faith in God that it was all going to work out, and it did, and it was the most incredible day of my life."
Pickler also says she was scheduled for a USO tour in Iraq shortly after the wedding took place. "We got married and then we kind of spent our honeymoon, part of it, in Iraq."
The singer also reveals that on her husband's wedding band "I put our wedding anniversary, 1-1-11, and I put, 'Put it back on!" She adds, "So, if he takes if off and he looks at it, it's going to say, 'Put it back on!' "
Pickler came in sixth place on "American Idol" during the FOX singing contest show's fifth season in 2006. She has since released two albums and several hit singles, such as "Best Days of Your Life" in 2008.
