Boeing receives $35 billion military contract

LOS ANGELES

The Air Force has awarded a $35 billion contract to the company to build the next generation of air refueling tankers.

The KC-46A tankers will replace 179 of the Air Force's aging 400 KC-135 tankers, which are the equivalent of flying gas stations.

The announcement was welcome news in Washington State and Kansas, where much of the work will be done.

The contract will create some 50,000 jobs throughout the US, including as many as 4,500 in southern California.
