OTRC: Nicolas Cage says he tries to hit a mix of 'scary and funny' in his films

Nicholas Cages says he tries to hit a mix of 'scary and funny' when doing films and dishes on 'Drive Angry.'

Nicolas Cage tells OnTheRedCarpet.com that he is constantly seeking the perfect mix of "scary and funny" in his movies and hopes he brought that out in his new film, "Drive Angry 3D," which opens in theaters on Friday, February 25.

"It's a combination of scary and funny, and that is my favorite mix," Cage told OnTheRedCarpet.com at the film's Hollywood premiere on February 22. "I've been trying to hit it ever since I saw 'An American Werewolf in London' and I don't know if I've totally hit the bulls-eye yet, but every chance I get to try to improve on it, I go for it. I haven't seen the movie yet, but that's what I'm hoping this movie will give all of us."

In "Drive Angry 3D," Cage plays a vengeful father named John Milton who escapes from hell to stop the cult who murdered his daughter and kidnapped his granddaughter. Cult leader Jonah King (Billy Burke, who plays Sheriff Swan in "The Twilight Saga) has taken her away to be sacrificed. Meanwhile, one of Satan's operatives,'The Accountant' (William Fichtner) has been sent to bring Milton back to Hell. Along the way, Milton rescues a waittress named Piper (Amber Heard) from her abusive boyfriend and takes her along for back-up.

In one scene, Cage kills a group of armed bad guys while having sexual intercourse with a bar maid in the R-rated movie, according to the Montreal Gazette.

Cage spoke highly of his "Drive Angry 3D" co-star Amber Heard, who did a lot of her own stunts in the film. Cage also praised director Patrick Lussier ("My Bloody Valentine 3D").

"I've been blessed to work with people I really like, good actors, really good directors," Cage told OnTheRedCarpet.com. "I'm looking to the future, I mean who are the new, cutting-edge film-makers and I feel Patrick is one of them and I was very happy to take some risks with him because even though I haven't seen 'Drive Angry' yet, it's my understanding that some pretty outside-the-box visuals occur and he's quite brave with the camera."

"Drive Angry 3D" is in theaters on Friday, February 25.
