Amber Heard tells OnTheRedCarpet.com that she got pretty banged up doing her own stunts on the set of her new film, "Drive Angry 3D," which opens in theaters on Friday, February 25.
"I went home many a night with bumps and scrapes and bruises," Heard told OnTheRedCarpet.com, "but that's all part of the experience. I wanted to do all of my own stunts, they wouldn't let me do them all, but I did a lot of them and it just made the experience all the better."
In "Drive Angry 3D," Nicolas Cage stars as a vengeful father named John Milton who escapes from hell to stop the cult who murdered his daughter and kidnapped his granddaughter. Cult leader Jonah King (Billy Burke, who plays Sheriff Swan in "The Twilight Saga) has taken her away to be sacrificed. Meanwhile, one of Satan's operatives,'The Accountant' (William Fichtner) has been sent to bring Milton back to Hell. Along the way, Milton rescues a waittress named Piper (Heard) from her abusive boyfriend and takes her along for back-up.
Cage spoke highly of his "Drive Angry 3D" co-star, mentioning that the pair had a "great time" working on the action flick.
"Amber, she's an original," Cage told OnTheRedCarpet.com. "She's tough, she's beautiful, I describe her as being very visceral and raw. She's someone that you care about, but what I like about her is that her portrayal, her presentation is not a victim. This is a real, tough (expletive)-kicker and that's how she comes off in the movie. We really had a great time working together."
Director Patrick Lussier got his 3-dimensional preparation with "My Bloody Valentine 3D" and Heard believes that "Drive Angry" is custom-built to see in 3D theaters.
"This is the perfect movie for 3D, this is a movie that you have to see in theaters to get the full effect," Heard said. "It's fast cars, loud explosions, big guns and Daisy Dukes! On me, not Nic. It is the experience of it all, you've got to feel the bullets whiz past, you've got to duck the punches, you've got to roll with it and save the world with me and Nicolas Cage."
Heard has also starred in movies such as the 2008 comedy "Pineapple Express" with Seth Rogen and James Franco as well as the 2009 film "Zombieland" with "The Social Network" star Jesse Eisenberg and "Spider-Man" newbie "Emma Stone".
Heard came out publicly as gay in December at the "GLAAD at 25" event in Los Angeles, which she attended with her girlfriend, Tasya van Ree, a 34-year-old artist and photographer.
"Drive Angry 3D" is in theaters on Friday, February 25.
