OTRC: Jerry Seinfeld, wife win cookbook lawsuit

Jerry Seinfeld and his wife Jessica have won a court battle against cookbook author Missy Chase Lapine, who had accused the comedian and television actor of defamation and his spouse of plagiarism.

Lapine, author of "The Sneaky Chef: Simple Strategies for hiding Healthy Foods in Kids' Favorite Meals," had said Jessica Seinfeld used her ideas in a cookbook she wrote, "Deceptively Delicious: Simple Secrets To Get Your Kids Eating Good Food." A New York State Supreme Court judge on Friday dismissed Lapin's claims against publisher HarperCollins.

Lapine's attorney, Howard Miller, said "we are evaluating the opinion for an appeal," the Reuters news wire said.

Jerry Seinfeld mocked Lapin on "The Late Show With David Letterman" in 2007, calling her a "wacko" and saying: "We're sorry that she's angry and hysterical and because she's a three-name woman ... many of the three-name people do become assassins. That's my concern."

The judge cleared him of defamation and said Jerry Seinfeld has a constitutional right to express his opinion.
