Gang suspect arrested for vandalism, weapon

VENTURA, Calif.

A Ventura resident was leaving his residence on the 6400 block of Hummingbird St., trying to drive out of his carport, when he was confronted by Gabriel Munoz, 28, and at least two other suspects.

The suspects had knives and bottles and challenged the resident to a fight. The resident called 911 as the suspects tried to block his car with trashcans.

The resident drove away, but Munoz slashed one of the vehicle's tires.

Ventura officers located and detained Munoz. He was positively identified as the person who vandalized the vehicle and was seen brandishing a weapon.

Munoz was arrested on the vandalism and weapon charges, and was given a gang enhancement due to prior gang-related arrests. The Street Terrorism Enforcement and Prevention Act (STEP Act) boosted Munoz's bail by $100,000.
