Boxing legend Sugar Ray Leonard is ready to take on the ballroom when "Dancing With the Stars" returns for a 12th season on Monday, March 21.
"I'm so excited," Leonard told OnTheRedCarpet.com on Monday, shortly after the cast announcement. "I think when I met my dance partner and when I came here to meet the cast, that's when I knew that it's going to happen. It's no turning back now."
Leonard will be joined in the competition by actress Sugar ray leonard, reality star Kendra Wilkinson, Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Hines Ward, "Loveline" co-host and KROQ radio DJ Mike Catherwood, talk show host Wendy Williams, WWE wrestler Chris Jericho, former boxer Sugar Ray Leonard, rapper Romeo, the original "Karate Kid" star Ralph Macchio, "Jonas L.A." and "Fish Hooks" star Chelsea Kane and model Petra Nemcova.
The 54-year-old retired from boxing in 1997. He was once married to his high school sweetheart, Juanita Wilkinson, from 1980 to 1990. The couple had two sons, Ray Jr. and Jarrell. Leonard then married Bernadette Robi in 1993. Leonard and Robi also have two children, Camille and Daniel Ray. In addition, Leonard is the godfather of Khloe Kardashian, whose sister Kim competed in the seventh season of "Dancing With the Stars."
When asked if there was anyone close to him that told him he should not try to tackle "Dancing With the Stars," Leonard quickly replied "My wife Bernadette." He adds, "She said you know Ray, you can't. You can't 'cause you can't dance. And then my kids say 'Papa don't embarrass me.' So I'm gonna prove them wrong."
Season 12 of "Dancing With the Stars" returns on Monday, March 21 at 8 p.m. ET with a two-hour premiere and "Dancing with the Stars: The Results Show" premieres the following week Tuesday, March 29 at 9 p.m. ET on ABC.
