Travis Barker of the pop punk band Blink-182 is set to soon release his first solo album, "Give the Drummer Some," whose sound is described by Rolling Stone magazine as "brooding hip-hop."

The 35-year-old drummer's new record is set to be released on March 15, more than two years after he and Adam "DJ AM" Goldstein survived a plane crash that killed four people. Goldstein died a year later from an accidental drug overdose. Barker suffered second and third degree burns, underwent 16 surgeries and could not feel his left hand for a long time.

"Mentally I was a basket case," Barker told Rolling Stone. "It was a big amount of time to get off of 20 medications that they had me on, and then physically getting in shape. It was heavy."

Weeks later, he was back in the recording studio.

Barker's debut album includes the first single "Can a Drummer Get Some," a track that features music artists Lil Wayne, Rick Ross, The Game and Swizz Beatz.

Among the 12 songs set to appear on the album are "Devil's Got a Hold of Me" featuring hip hop group Slaughterhouse, "Misfits" with Steve Aoki, "Cool Head" with Kid Cudi, Don't (Expletive) With Me" with Paul Wall, Kurupt and J Roc, "City of Dreams" with The Clipse and Kobe and "On My Own," featuring Slipknot's Corey Taylor, Interscope Records announced.

Rolling Stone magazine described the sound of Barker's album as "brooding hip-hop propelled by real drumbeats," quoting the drummer as saying: "When I look at music everything is blurred, and I like it that way. I grew up like that, hanging out with different types of people who listened to so many different types of music. I never wanted to be part of any one clique. I loved it all."

Music by guitarist Slash, formerly of the rock group Guns N' Roses, is also featured on the album. Barker has already released two tracks from the record on iTunes - "Jump Down" and "Carry It." A deluxe version of "Give the Drummer Some" will contain a total of 16 songs.

Blink-182 rose to fame in the 1990s and is known for commercial hits such as "What's My Age Again" and "All the Small Things." The group took a break from touring and recording in 2005 and performed together again in 2009.

Blink-182 is set to release a new album in June and also go on tour, while Barker plans to tour on his own with Lil Wayne and Rick Ross in March and April. Blink-182 will perform concerts in the United Kingdom in July (get tickets).

In recent months, Barker also took on a side project - he recorded music for pop star Britney Spears' new album, "Femme Fatale." The record is set for release on March 29.
