Hugh Laurie says he is "very excited" to be battling his first winter cold.

The 51-year-old British actor is best known for his role as the misanthropic Dr. Gregory House on the FOX series "House M.D."

"I'm very excited about having a cold because it's my first one ever," Laurie recently said on "The Ellen DeGeneres Show." "It's the first cold of my whole life. I'm excited about it because for so many years I believed that I didn't get colds because basically nothing could live in this body. I was so addled with booze and cigarettes. I feel like I've sort of rejoined the human race."

"I want to savor it," he added. "It's been a few days now."

Laurie has been nominated for an Emmy five times for his role on "House M.D.," which is on its seventh season and also stars Lisa Edelstein and Olivia Wilde.

Laurie has also been keeping busy with film projects. He voices a character in the new animated movie "Hop," which stars Russell Brand as the Easter Bunny and is set for release on April 1. Laurie also recently filmed the romantic comedy "The Oranges" with "Gossip Girl" actress Leighton Meester and the animated film "Arthur Christmas" with James McAvoy.
