Man arrested for pointing lasers at aircrafts

WEST COVINA, Calif.

Jose Gutierrez is suspected in several incidents between 2009 and January of this year. The 28-year-old was arrested at his apartment Tuesday.

Police said a green laser and a police scanner were found in his home. The light was found to have a range of 10,000 feet. Investigators believe he used the laser to point at police, fire and commercial aircrafts. In some cases, the victim's were hit multiple times.

In addition, Gutierrez was found to have two warrants outstanding for his arrest. He is currently being held at the Los Angeles County Jail. His bail collectively totals $400,000 and is scheduled to appear at the West Covina Courthouse on Thursday.

It is a felony to discharge a laser at an aircraft, which carries a possible state prison sentence of up to 3 years.
