Former "Dancing With the Stars" professional Julianne Hough is in final negotiations to land one of her biggest roles yet: A starring role opposite Tom Cruise in "Rock of Ages."
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Hough will play Sherrie, a small-town girl who catches the eye of Cruise's character Stacee Jaxx, the rock star at the top of his career. Hough may also be seen in some provocative outfits since the character of Sherrie becomes a stripper.
"It was a star-is-born moment," director Adam Shankman told the industry paper. "It was bigger than how I felt when I put Zac (Efron) in 'Hairspray.'"
Mary J. Blige has also signed on to the project to play a character called Justice. The film will be based off the hit Broadway musical which featured classic 80s hair rock hits from bands like Journey, Bon Jovi, and Twisted Sister. Cruise's character is expected to sing Bon Jovi's "Wanted Dead or Alive." The character is also a part of other numbers including Foreigner's "I Wanna Know What Love Is." he Broadway musical starred "American Idol" alum Constantine Maroulis.
The film is slated to begin shooting in May. Other actors rumored for roles in the film include Alec Baldwin and Russell Brand.
Hough has ventured into the acting world before with her debut role opposite Christina Aguilera in "Burlesque" and she also plays April in a remake of the hit Kevin Bacon film "Footloose", which is set to be released on April 1, 2011 and features "Center Stage 2"'s Kenny Wormald in the lead role.
