Former Upland mayor pleads not guilty to corruption charges

UPLAND, Calif.

John Pomierski, who was indicted on 11 counts by a grand jury, surrendered Thursday and pleaded not guilty. He resigned as mayor last week.

In June, FBI agents confiscated records from his city hall office and home. He is accused of conspiracy, extortion, and bribery for allegedly demanding $4,500 in bribes from two Upland businesses, in exchange for help with permits and legal issues.

Appeals Board Member John Hennes has also been indicted and pleaded not guilty.
