Amanda Seyfried says Dominic Cooper, her ex-boyfriend, broke her heart "pretty hard" and adds that it was difficult to open up to a new person.
The 25-year-old actress, who stars in the new movie "Red Riding Hood" and is also known for her role in "Mean Girls," made her comments to Elle magazine in an interview published in its April 2011 issue.
Seyfried and Cooper, a 32-year-old British actor, starred together in the 2008 romantic musical film "Mamma Mia!" and dated for about three years. They reportedly split in May 2010. Elle magazine said when they began a relationship, Cooper was involved with someone else.
Cooper's spokesperson had no immediate comment.
"I was just kind of foolishly thinking that the two of them were done and Dom and I were involved," Seyfried told Elle. "But we weren't really as involved as I thought. So I got my heart broken pretty hard. Then it took a long time for us to break up again. After that, it's really hard to open myself up to a new person. Really hard."
In recent months, Seyfried has been linked to actor Ryan Phillippe, ex-husband of actress Reese Witherspoon. They have not confirmed a relationship. Seyfried told Elle, when asked about the reports: "Um, yeah. I've been 'seen' with him."
She also confirmed she once "dated" "True Blood" star Alexander Skarsgard.
Seyfried's new film "Red Riding Hood," based on the fairy tale by the Brothers Grimm, is set for release on Friday, March 11. The actress plays Valerie, a young girl who lives in a medieval village that is haunted by a werewolf, who can take on a human form.
Seyfried told OnTheRedCarpet.com and other news outlets at the recent Los Angeles premiere of "Red Riding Hood" that the original story "scared the crap" out of her.
