Alez Pettyfer says he bonded with his "Beastly" co-star, actor Neil Patrick Harris, over the movie "Bruno."
In "Beastly," a modern take on "Beauty and the Beast," a New York teenager named Kyle, played by Pettyfer, is transformed into a hideous monster and is forced to find love without the aid of his appearance.
When he falls in love with a beautiful girl named Lindy, played by Vanessa Hudgens, he only has a small window of time to make her love him back. Harris, known for the comedy series "How I Met Your Mother," plays Will, Kyle's blind tutor.
"He's a funny man," Pettyfer told OnTheRedCarpet.com about Harris. "He's the best. It makes your job so much easier. Me and Neil had a bonding session. We went and saw 'Bruno.' It brought us that much closer."
"Bruno" is a 2009 film starring Sacha Baron Cohen as a flamboyant Austrian fashionista.
"Every actor wants to put on a mask, whether it's emotionally or physically," Pettyfer said about "Beastly." "I got to, thankfully, put on a mask and become someone else, which was a great experience."
Pettyfer also starred in last month's "I Am Number Four" alongside his once-girlfriend, "Glee" star Dianna Agron. Agron denied rumors that the couple was engaged in early February and it was reported that she moved out of the couple's home later in the month.
Pettyfer has already garnered a reputation for being difficult. The Hollywood Reporter said the young actor demanded $10 million to sign on to Screen Gems project, "Mortal Instruments" and that he protested his pay on "Number Four" when he found out he was getting less than another actor.
"Beastly" also stars Mary-Kate Olsen and hit theaters on March 4, 2011. Watch the trailer below.
