Is a new Aerosmith record on the horizon? Frontman Steven Tyler says he and guitarist Joe Perry recently "sent smoke signals" after months of not speaking and hinted that they may produce new music this summer.
Tyler, 62, had told journalists in January that his new role as a judge on "American Idol" did not mean Aerosmith was over, adding that he wanted to begin work on a new album within weeks.
"BUT JUST SMOKED THE PEACE PIPE FOR AN HOUR TODAY AND ARE ON OUR WAY TO ROCK'IN YOUR (expletive) WORLDS THIS SUMMER BY LOCKING OUR SELVES AWAY SOMEWHERE W/ GUITARS & DRUMS."
Aerosmith sold more than 150 million albums since forming in 1970 and last recorded a studio album in 2004 . The veteran rock band nearly broke up in 2009 when a feud erupted between Tyler and the other band members. Aerosmith toured in 2010 and Tyler has said he and his band members plan on touring South America and Japan in November and December of 2011.
I love these guys," Tyler said on "The Howard Stern Show" on SIRIUS XM satellite radio in January, before the premiere of the 10th season of "American Idol." "I love them to death. There's jealousy. It's a 40-year marriage."
During the current season of "American Idol," one Top 24 finalist, Lauren Alaina, appeared to impress Tyler with her rendition of the song "I Don't Want to Miss a Thing." The track was a hit for Aerosmith in 1998 and was featured on the soundtrack of the movie "Armageddon," which starred Tyler's daughter Liv.
"American Idol" is currently down to its top 13 finalists after eliminating 11 contestants last week during the first results show of the season.
Alaina will be entering the next round of "American Idol," as are Casey Abrams, Naima Adedapo, Lauren Alaina, James Durbin, Ashton Jones, Stefano Langone, Jacob Lusk, Scotty McCreery, Paul McDonald, Thia Megia, Haley Reinhart, Karen Rodriguez and Pia Toscano.
