A drunk driver has been sentenced to six years in prison for killing two people and injuring two others in a head-on crash on the 91 Freeway.

Jessica Lynn Shekell, 23, of Anaheim, pleaded guilty last October to multiple felony counts of vehicular manslaughter and driving under the influence of alcohol.

In Oct. 2009, California Highway Patrol officers observed Shekell driving 50 mph the wrong direction on State Route 91. The defendant crashed head-on into a pickup truck, totaling both vehicles.

The driver of the other vehicle, 49-year-old Sally Miguel, and her 30-year-old sister, Patricia Miguel, were killed in the crash. Their nieces, 15-year-old Mary Miguel and 11-year-old Sara Miguel, survived and were treated for internal injuries.

Shekell was transported to the hospital and treated for facial trauma and fractures to her arms. The defendant had a blood alcohol level of .26 percent, more than three times the legal limit.
