A new report underscores why schools need as much support as possible.

Scientists found that classrooms with inadequate resources can affect children's mental health. Authors interviewed the teachers and parents of 11,000 first grade students.

University of Maryland researchers found classrooms lacking in school supplies, heat and child-friendly furniture impacted attentiveness, the likelihood of getting into fights, forming friendships and feelings of sadness.
