OTRC: Mr. Moviefone reviews 'Battle: Los Angeles,' 'Red Riding Hood' and 'Mars Needs Moms'

Aaron Eckhart appears in a scene from 'Battle: Los Angeles'. (Columbia Pictures)

This week at the movies, it's all about aliens as they're kidnapping moms, destroying Los Angeles, and the star of "Red Riding Hood" looks a little alien herself, with those big wide-spread eyes she has.

Yes, it's to grandmother's house we go as Amanda Seyfried stars in a dark re-imagining of the centuries-old fable "Red Riding Hood."

A village terrorized by a bloodthirsty werewolf hires a hunter to end the nightmare. The problem is that Victoria (played by Seyfried) gets caught in the middle as she suspects the man she loves could be the werewolf. Also featured are Gary Oldman, Julie Christie and Billy Burke.

The Reel Deal: With an awful story and terrible acting (right down to the blinking corpse) "Red Riding Hood" was meant to be chewed up and spit out. I'm out.

Aliens are in serious need of parental units in "Mars Needs Moms."

In this Disney 3D adventure, a boy's mom is abducted by Martians who need help raising their young and it's to the rescue as he hitches a ride on the spaceship and launches a plan to get his mom back with the help of a rebel Martian and a tech-savvy earthling.

The Reel Deal: With an odd mix of motion capture animation and adult themes that include kidnapping, creating a master race and a Martian firing squad, "Mars Needs Moms" is reasonably entertaining and pretty well done. It's just a little alien. I gotta go with out on this one. I'm out.

More aliens. But these ones aren't after moms, they're after us all in "Battle: Los Angeles."

Highly advanced and hostile aliens plan to kill everyone and take over earth's resources. But when they get to Los Angeles, they encounter a determined marine platoon (led by Aaron Eckhart) who won't go down without a fight.

The Reel Deal: Action-packed but ultimately just too corny to recommend. The alien invasion is cool but all the talking in between is not. I'm out.

In limited release is another retelling of the classic romantic drama "Jane Eyre."
