OTRC: Michelle Rodriguez talks 'gnarly' training for 'Battle: Los Angeles'

Michelle Rodriguez talks to OnTheRedCarpet.com at the premiere of 'Battle Los Angeles.' (OTRC)

Michelle Rodriguez says training for her new alien action film "Battle: Los Angeles" was "pretty gnarly."

In "Battle Los Angeles," a Marine platoon is forced to defend Los Angeles after Earth is attacked by aliens. It's up to the Marine staff sergeant Michael Nantz (Aaron Eckhart) and his new crew to hold their ground against the unknown forces.

Rodriguez, 32, stars as TSgt. Elena Santos, part of the Marine platoon who goes up against an enemy unlike anything they've faced before.

"[Training] was pretty gnarly," she told OnTheRedCarpet.com at the recent premiere for the movie, which was released on Friday, March 11.

"I mean I didn't stick around at night... or anything, but I was there from 5 o'clock in the morning to 5 o'clock in the afternoon training hard-core," she added. "The PT, the running for two miles, the taking the guns apart and putting them back together, the clearing house, the whole technological training was awesome."

When asked about whether or not she believes there is something else out there, Rodriguez admit that she's "leaving it open."

"I believe in the possibility of aliens, for sure," Rodriguez said, "because we only acknowledge four percent of what exists scientifically, so I can't rule out the ninety-six percent of what we don't acknowledge. I can't say that I know what that is because I don't."

Rodriguez got her start in the 2000 movie, "Girlfight" and has since received tough girl roles in movies like "Avatar," and "Machete." She also played Ana Lucia Cortez in 26 episodes of "Lost."

Rodriguez made headlines in 2007 for violating her probation stemming from past DUI cases and was sentenced to 180 days in jail. The actress served 18 days of the sentence, due to overcrowding.

Rodriguez's next role is in "Underground Comedy" alongside Lindsay Lohan who will be playing herself in the movie that's set for release on June 14, 2011.
