Damage estimates are climbing for the California harbor hit hardest by last week's tsunami. Officials in Santa Cruz now estimate the wave surge caused $22.5 million in damage to the city's harbor.

The revised estimate is up from previous estimates of $17 million. The estimate does not include $4 million in damage to private vessels.

The figure includes expected costs of rebuilding damaged docks and other infrastructure.

At least 18 boats sank and another 100 were damaged by the waves.

The statewide damage total from last week's surge is now said to exceed $40 million.
