Chris Klein of "American Pie" fame is set to appear on the new FX comedy series "Wilfred," which stars Elijah Wood and tells of a man who interacts with a dog but sees the animal as a man wearing a dog costume.

Klein, 32, played Chris "Oz" Ostreicher in the first two installments of the cult-favorite "American Pie" teen films and appeared in the short-lived series "Welcome to the Captain" in 2008. In 2005, Klein pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor drunken driving charge. In 2010, he served four days in jail for a second DUI arrest and completed two months in a live-in rehab facility.

Filming on "Wilfred" began on Thursday, March 16, an FX spokesperson told OnTheRedCarpet.com.

Klein will appear on several episodes of the series, which is based on an Australian show and is set to premiere in June, People magazine reported, quoting one of the actor's friends as saying: "He's doing fantastic and is really excited to get back to work."

Klein will play the love interest of Wood's character's neighbor, Jenna. She owns Wilfred, whose human persona is portrayed by Jason Gann. He played the role in the original 2007 series and is the show's co-creator. In the original series, the dog belongs to a woman named Sarah and Adam, her new boyfriend, is constantly challenged by Wilfred.

Meanwhile, a new "American Pie" sequel is in the works, although Klein has not yet confirmed publicly if he will appear in it. Seann William Scott, Jason Biggs and Eugene Levy have signed onto the project, which will be the franchise's first film to be released in theaters since 2003.

It was recently reported thatScott voluntarily entered a treatment facility on Tuesday, for undisclosed "health and personal issues."

Tara Reid confirmed in February that she planned on joining the cast for "American Pie 4," which was its working title.
