OTRC: Mr. Moviefone reviews 'Limitless,' 'Paul ' and 'The Lincoln Lawyer'

Bradley Cooper appears in a scene from 'Limitless.' (Rogue Pictures)

This week at the movies, Matthew McConaughey is workin' it from the back of his car, there's a weed-smoking alien and fame, fortune and power come in one little pill in "Limitless."

Bradley Cooper is a failed writer who takes an experimental "smart drug" that allows him to achieve unimaginable wealth and success. But as he suffers from serious side effects, he must also out-maneuver the people trying to get their hands on his supply. The film also stars Robert De Niro and Abbie Cornish.

The Reel Deal: "Limitless" should have been much better, but it's still a stylish, pill-poppin', mind-altering, reasonably entertaining thriller. I'm in.

An L.A. attorney just landed the case of a lifetime in "The Lincoln Lawyer."

Matthew McConaughey stars as a lawyer who operates out of the back of his car. When he takes what looks like a straight forward rape and assault case against a rich playboy (played by Ryan Phillippe), the whole thing gets turned against him. Also starring are William H. Macy and Marisa Tomei.

The Reel Deal: Carried by smooth operator Matthew McConaughey, "The Lincoln Lawyer" is a perfectly average crime drama that's probably worth a matinee price. I'm in.

From the makers of "Hot Fuzz" and "Shaun of the Dead," get ready to have a close encounter with an alien named "Paul."

Two friends on their way to Area 51 come across a hitchhiking alien named Paul (voiced by Seth Rogen). Now they're in a race to get their new extraterrestrial friend back to the mother ship before it's too late.

The Reel Deal: Not as funny as it thinks it is, but still pretty clever and again, reasonably entertaining. Paul is an alien worth spending some time with. I'm in.

And in limited release, probably the best new movie of the week, you'll love Paul Giamatti as a down and out lawyer and high school wrestling coach in "Win Win."
