Christina Applegate is set to star in a new NBC comedy pilot spearheaded by "Saturday Night Live" creator Lorne Michaels and writer Emily Spivey.
If the project is picked up and more episodes are ordered, it could mark the actress' return to television, two years after her old show "Samantha Who?" was canceled.
Applegate is also one of the producers, her spokesperson told OnTheRedCarpet.com. No filming date has yet been announced.
She is known for playing the main character on "Samantha Who?," a comedy series that ran between 2007 and 2009, and for her role as ditzy Kelly Bundy on the sitcom "Married With Children," which starred "Modern Family" actor Ed O'Neill as her misanthropic father Al and "Sons of Anarchy" star Katey Sagal as her mother Peg.
Applegate has in recent years appeared in movies such as "Cats and Dogs: The Revenge of Kitty Galore," "Going the Distance" and the 2011 comedy "Hall Pass."
Throughout the next few weeks, many stars are taping pilots that may be made into full-season television shows. Such celebrities include Tim Allen, who rose to fame with the series "Home Improvement," talk show host Chelsea Handler, Rob Schneider and "Scrubs" actor John C. McGinley.
