OTRC: Jason Bateman says 'Paul' isn't after our brains, just our brain cells - See video

Jason Bateman talks to OnTheRedCarpet.com at the Hollywood premiere of 'Paul.'

Jason Bateman talked to OnTheRedCarpet.com about why audiences will find "Paul" funny rather than terrifying, at the film's Hollywood premiere on March 14, 2011.

"Cause in this [movie]," Bateman told OnTheRedCarpet.com, "Aliens are trying to kill human... braincells. He's got a kind of weed problem."

"Paul" follows two sci-fi nerds named Willy (Simon Pegg) and Clive (Nick Frost) make a pilgrimage to America's UFO heartland, Area 51 in Nevada. When they get there, they meet an alien named Paul (voiced by Seth Rogen) who has escaped the military base where he had been held for 60 years. When Paul joins the two on a road trip, federal agents (Bateman, Bill Hader, and Joe Lo Truglio) and the father of a young woman (Kristen Wiig) that they accidentally kidnapped start following them.

The film also features performances by Jane Lynch, Blythe Danner, John Carroll Lynch, David Koechner and Sigourney Weaver.

"I'm the very severe humorless guy with shades and a black crown Victoria and a black suit and a black tie and yeah, I mean business," Bateman told OnTheRedCarpet.com of his character. "I'm trying to get him back to Area 51, where he's been working with our government for x number of years and he's escaped, so we've got to get him back."

Bateman began his career as a child actor in "Little House on the Prairie" and "Silver Spoons." The actor is perhaps best known for his roles in the popular Fox series, "Arrested Development" and the movies "Juno," "Hancock" and "The Switch."

Bateman will next star alongside Jennifer Aniston, Colin Farrell, Charlie Day, Jamie Foxx and Jason Sudeikis in the comedy "Horrible Bosses," which is slated for release on July 8, 2011.

"Paul" is set for release on March 18, 2011. Watch the trailer below.
