'Limitless' debuts at No. 1 with $19M

"Limitless" broke out of a crowded pack of new releases and holdovers to take the top spot at this weekend's box office.

The sci-fi thriller, starring Bradley Cooper, opened at No. 1 with $19 million.

Cooper plays a struggling writer who takes a magical pill that allows him to tap into his maximum brain potential. Suddenly he's successful and making millions.

Coming in second is the animated western "Rango" with $15.3 million.

"Battle: Los Angeles" came in third with $14.6 million.

"The Lincoln Lawyer" and "Paul" ranked fourth and fifth, respectively, with more than $13 million each.

The top 10 movies of the weekend:
