OTRC: Kiefer Sutherland: '24' movie due in 2012

Kiefer Sutherland says a movie based on his former action series "24" is set to be released in the summer of 2012.

Sutherland played Counter Terrorist Unit agent Jack Bauer on the FOX show since its 2001 debut until it ended in 2010 after eight seasons. Producers said after its finale that a movie based on the Emmy-winning series was in the works. A first draft of a script has already been written.

"It will come out in the summer of 2012," Sutherland, 44, said on the ABC daytime talk show "The View" on Monday, March 21, when asked about the film.

Meanwhile, Sutherland is currently starring in the new Broadway play "That Championship Season," a revival of a 1972 production. It opened earlier this month and stars his "Lost Boys" co-star Jason Patric as well as comedian Jim Gaffigan and "Sex and the City" actor Chris Noth.

Meanwhile, Sutherland has filmed an online series, "The Confession." He plays a hitman who tells a priest why his victims deserve to die. The show is set to air on Hulu.com on March 28.

Sutherland is also set to appear in a new Fox drama pilot called "Touch" by "Heroes" creator Tim Kring.
