OTRC: John Travolta's Qantas safety video - cringe-worthy?

John Travolta, donning an airline pilot's hat and uniform, appears in a safety video for Qantas Airways that has been played for passengers of the Australian airline during the past few months.

Several viewers have dubbed the clip as "cringe-worthy," Australia's Telegraph newspaper said.

"This is your captain speaking - well, maybe not today," the 57-year-old actor, who is a licensed pilot of private planes, says in the video. "But I can guarantee that the guys on the flight deck and the greater team care just as much about aircraft safety as I do."

"I've been flying over 40 years as a pilot and I can tell you, there's no one I'd rather have at the controls than a Qantas pilot," Travolta adds.

In 2002, Travolta was named Qantas' "Ambassador-at-Large." The company said the actor completed 747-400 First Officer simulator training. Travolta appeared at the airline's 90th anniversary event in Australia last year and sang "Summer Lovin,'" one of the songs from his hit 1978 musical film "Grease.'
