OTRC: Ralph Macchio already worried for next week's jive on 'Dancing With the Stars'

Ralph Macchio talks to OnTheRedCarpet.com after week 1 of 'Dancing With The Stars.'

Ralph Macchio came out kicking in the premiere of 'Dancing With The Stars,' surprising everyone by foxtrotting his way into the lead.

Macchio, who's best known for starring in "The Karate Kid" 27-years ago, might have looked hopeless in rehearsals, but his partner Karina Smirnoff brought out his skills and the dancing team got a well-deserved standing ovation.

"This was really special to be able to put out that performance," Macchio told OnTheRedCarpet.com. "I was very confident with the choreography and I love the song itself and the hard work we put in. So I tried to have fun with it and that's what we did and the crowd lifted it to another level and to hear that the press room was happy too, that's awesome as well! But the flip side is okay, we've got to sustain this marathon, so I'm just doing one day at a time."

Even though they beat out all the competition with a score of 23 out of 30, Macchio remained modest and knew there would be no time to revel in his win with a new dance to learn in the morning.

"It's pure excitement right now," Macchio said. "I think when I wake up tomorrow and we have to start working on the jive, which is another really tough number and requires a tremendous amount of stamina and is a totally different animal, it will be like, oh boy, we could take a hit here because we came out of the gate so well."

After the cast announcement, Macchio said that the timing was right for his comeback "The timing just feels right, based on the last couple of years and stuff that's been happening for me - my FunnyorDie video that blew up pretty well, 'Ugly Betty' for ABC the year before last, and then 'The Karate Kid' being remade," Macchio told OnTheRedCarpet.com. "This show puts a positive spin on stuff so if there's one to jump out of your comfort zone, I think this is the one."

In the 1980s, Macchio rose to fame playing Daniel LaRusso in three "The Karate Kid" movies, which starred Pat Morita as his mentor Mr. Miyagi. Morita reprised his role in 1994 in a fourth "Karate Kid" film starring Oscar winner Hilary Swank as a female version of Macchio's character. He died in 2005.

A remake of "The Karate Kid" starring Will Smith's son Jaden and Jackie Chan as his character's mentor was released in 2010.

Also last year, Macchio recorded a video for the comedy website FunnyOrDie.com called "Wax On, (Expletive) Off," whose title parodies Miyagi's famous line from the "Karate Kid" movies.

Macchio is also known for his role in the 1992 movie "My Cousin Vinny" and had a recurring role as Archie Rodriguez on the comedy series "Ugly Betty" in 2009. In recent years, he also appeared on the shows "Entourage" and "Law & Order: Criminal Intent."

Macchio and Smirnoff will return next week to perform the jive on 'Dancing With The Stars.'
