Russell Brand admit that he nearly proposed to his wife, singer Katy Perry on their first date.
The comedian told Elle Magazine that he had never been in love until meeting the "Teenage Dream" singer and compared meeting her to taking a hit of acid.
"I nearly asked her to marry me on our first date," Brand said in Elle's April issue. "It was like a hit of acid, a wave of confusion, emerging from under the water, a moment of Oh bloody hell, different perception for a moment, extraordinary. And then I thought, I'll give it space and see what happens."
Brand, 35, and Perry, 26, got married on October 23, 2010 in a traditional Hindu ceremony in Rajasthan, India, where Brand also proposed to the singer. The two have appeared nothing but blissful since they began dating in September 2009 after the singer performed on the MTV Video Music Awards that were hosted by Brand.
"It's the most normal relationship I've ever had with anybody," Brand told Elle magazine. "She's very spirited, bighearted, innocent, but very, very smart. Someone told me that enlightenment is contingent upon being able to hold opposing views simultaneously. I'm actually attracted to that magnetism and sort of repulsion. She's endlessly fascinating... I was at a point in my life where I was ready to behave. I look at it the way I look at most things: One day at a time. I will say it's very, very rewarding and I love her. She's very pretty."
Perry appeared on the March cover of Elle magazine and said that she intended to start a family with her new husband.
"I think some people will die on the stage, and I'm not so sure I want to do that," Perry told Elle magazine in March. "Like, I want to have kids! I'm totally fine with saying that. I think some people are scared because they're worried it's going to ruin their career, but I want to live a full life."
Brand stars in the upcoming comedy, "Arthur," about a drunken playboy millionaire who stands to lose his inheritance when he falls in love with a woman his family doesn't approve of. The actor became close to his co-star Helen Mirren during filming.
Mirren talked to Elle about her co-star, who's a fellow Brit.
"The greatest thing about Russell is that he loves women, Mirren told the magazine. "I don't mean that in a nasty, venal, sexy way. Let's say he likes women, he likes women of all shapes and sizes. It's very endearing and charming. It makes you feel good. It sounds silly, but he's incredibly well behaved. Yes, he has a raunchy sense of humor?when he goes off, your jaw drops?but he's kind and gracious."
"Arthur" is set for release on April 8, 2011. Watch the trailer below.
