Oprah Winfrey announced on Friday that the final episode of "The Oprah Winfrey Show" will air on May 25, 2011, which Harpo Productions confirmed.
On Thursday, Winfrey Tweeted that she and her staff are "Hard at work planning the final shows -can't wait to share w/ u all!" According to the Tweet, new shows will resume on April 7, after airing re-runs for the last few weeks.
The "Oprah Winfrey Show" has been the top-rated talk show for more than two decades and airs in 145 countries worldwide.
Winfrey announced in November 2009 that she would end the show after 25 years on-air to focus on the Oprah Winfrey Network, which she launched on January 1, 2011. OWN replaced the Discovery Health network and is available in more than 80 million homes. The network was first announced three years ago as a venture between Winfrey's HARPO production company and Discovery Communications.
Winfrey has scheduled her first-ever live "Tweetup" on Sunday at 8 P.m. ET to watch "Season 25, Behind The Scenes" on OWN.
