Car crashes into building, injures 6 people

ROWLAND HEIGHTS, LOS ANGELES

A silver sedan crashed through a fence into a wall of an apartment building at 18502 Rio Seco Dr. The car reportedly peeled out of a shopping center, hit a curb and crashed into the apartment.

Five adults and four kids were in the apartment when the car crashed in. Six people were hospitalized.

A 3-year-old was pinned under the car. He and his mother may have broken legs. The boy's father suffered a gash on his arm trying to free the child. The other children, ages 5 to 9, have cuts and bruises.

L.A. County firefighters on scene said most of the injuries were minor to moderate.

"It went into the dining room, so fortunately the family hadn't sat down to dinner," said L.A. County Fire Capt. Mike McHargue. "They were just heading that way when the car came in."

The driver was not injured, and was not ticketed by California Highway Patrol officers.

Apartment units on the first and second floors have been red-tagged due to structural problems resulting from the crash.
