Mariah Carey says she almost gave birth to her and husband Nick Cannon's twins over the weekend.
The pregnant pop singer and Cannon, a 30-year-old radio and television host, had said they are expecting a twin son and daughter in the spring of 2011.
"So #dembabies really wanted 2 celebrate w/us/share the anniversary!" Carey wrote on her Twitter page on Sunday, March 27. "I started having contractions last night..went 2 the hospital."
"Finally they said I could come home after they got it under control but ... hey almost came on 3/27- happy anniversary in deed!!!" she added. "We have a few more weeks 2 go but- wow!!!: ) #soreadyallready!"
Carey celebrated her 42nd birthday on Sunday. She and Cannon will mark their two-year wedding anniversary on April 30. The twins will be the couple's first children together.
Carey later posted a photo of what appeared to be her belly, which sported a colorful, painted picture of a butterfly, one of her favorite symbols and the name of her sixth studio album, which came out in 1997. The words "Dem Babies" were painted above it.
"My attempt @ festiveness on 327!" Carey, 41, Tweeted on Monday, March 28. "For ATLITL thank u + I?U! Comin soon #dembabies! LYMA+thanx 4 making me happy:)."
"ATLITL" stands for ""All the lambs in the land" and "LYMA" is short for ""Love ya much always." Carey often uses such expressions in online messages to her fans.
Carey and Cannon celebrated the upcoming birth of their children with a lavish baby shower in Beverly Hills earlier this month.
