OTRC: Natalie Portman's body double in 'Black Swan': Actress barely danced herself

Natalie Portman's body double in "Black Swan", Sarah Lane, says the actress only did five percent of her own ballet dancing in the thriller, which earned her her first Oscar.

Lane made her comments to the Wall Street Journal ahead of the DVD release of the movie on March 29.

"I should specify the actual percentage of dancing that Natalie did," Lane said. "They are saying that it was 85 to 90 precent of the dancing but I can tell you honestly that it was about five percent of the on-screen dancing."

They would do close-up shots with her ... then they would do the same shot with me, and then they would do a full body shot from far away, or a close-up of my feet, etc," she added. "And then there were a few shots they did that were closer full body shots - and then they digitally put her face on my body."

Portman's spokesperson had no immediate comment. Her fiance Benjamin Millepied, a ballet dancer who appears in the film and is the father of her unborn child, told the Los Angeles Times that "honestly, 85 percent of that movie is Natalie."

The movie's studio, Fox Searchlight, said in a statement published in the Wall Street Journal that Lane covered "the more complicated dance sequences" but that Portman "herself did most of the dancing featured in the final film."

Director Darren Aronofsky told Entertainment Weekly: "There are 139 dance shots in the film. 111 are Natalie Portman untouched. 28 are her dance double Sarah Lane. If you do the math that's 80 percent Natalie Portman."

Lane says that she does not feel she received enough credit for her work in "Black Swan" but adds that it was her own fault.

"When I was going to sign my contract, it said on-screen credit is up to the producer's discretion," she told the Wall Street Journal. "So I asked some people and I said, 'I don't know about this. I feel like I should have it specified in my contract how I want to be credited' and everyone was like, 'You know, you're a double so you're already getting paid more than a principal contract. You're already getting a good deal.' So I signed the contract and I left it."

"Black Swan" was nominated for five Oscars, including Best Picture, but Portman's win marked the only one for the movie. The actress also received an Oscar nomination for her part in the 2004 movie "Closer."

Portman told OnTheRedCarpet.com that starring in "Black Swan" fulfilled her childhood dream of becoming a dancer. Both she and co-star Mila Kunis lost about 20 pounds for their roles.

Portman told OnTheRedCarpet.com in late 2010 that her parents were supportive of her role in "Black Swan," which sees her sharing a sex scene with Kunis, but that some parts were tough for her mother to watch.

Portman recently starred in the sex comedy movie "No Strings Attached" with Ashton Kutcher, which she has joked may have made her father happy, and appears in the upcoming fantasy comedy movie "Your Highness" alongside Academy Awards co-host James Franco.

The film features a slew of sexual jokes and a scene that sees Portman in a thong bikini.

Portman plays a warrior who helps a pair of princes, played by Franco and Danny McBride of the HBO series "Eastbound & Down," save a maiden, played by Zooey Deschanel, from an evil wizard, portrayed by Justin Theroux.

The director of "Your Highness," set for release in April 2011, is David Gordon Green, who directed Franco and McBride in "Pineapple Express."
