Nick Cannon says he and his wife Mariah Carey, who is pregnant with twins, spent a "nerve-racking" night in a hospital over the weekend after she started having contractions.
Carey, 42, had Tweeted about the Sunday's false alarm. She also painted a butterfly on her belly and posted a photo of it online.
"They're calling it a 'scare,' but really, it was just nerve-racking," Cannon, 30, told the Los Angeles Times. "We were in the hospital from 4 a.m. until I don't even know."
"The thing with twins is that you want them in their natural incubator as long as possible," he added. "They might be ready to come out, but we need them to stay in for a while."
Carey and Cannon, a 30-year-old radio and television host, had said they are expecting a twin son and daughter in the spring of 2011.
Carey's due date is May 14, the Los Angeles Times quoted Cannon as saying. His new comedy album, "Mr. Showbiz," is set to be released the same day. Carey had said on her Twitter page that she is set to give birth in a few weeks. She and Cannon will mark their two-year wedding anniversary on April 30. The twins will be the couple's first children together.
Carey and Cannon celebrated the upcoming birth of their children with a lavish baby shower in Beverly Hills earlier this month.
