A woman was in a crosswalk at Cotner Avenue at 10:40 a.m. when she was struck by a truck that was turning from westbound Santa Monica Boulevard onto the northbound 405 Freeway. The truck kept going.
The victim was declared dead at the scene. The body has not yet been identified. The victim's Coach handbag was seen laying beside the body.
The LAPD said the truck was some sort of hazmat vehicle. Police are trying to determine if the driver left the scene knowing a pedestrian had been hit, or if the vehicle was so big that the driver was not aware that he hit her.
An employee with the LAPD said the company which the truck belongs to was notified and is cooperating with the investigation.
The truck was located in Compton, investigators are inspecting the vehicle.
