Chris Brown's "Good Morning America" outburst last week didn't deter album sales for his new album, "F.A.M.E.," which has landed the No. 1 spot on the Billboard Top 200 Albums chart.
The album, which dropped March 22, sold 270,000 copies in the first week, despite Brown's "GMA" meltdown where the singer broke a window after interviewer Robin Roberts asked him whether he had spoken to his ex-girlfriend Rihanna since his 2009 assault.
Brown, 21, did 'sort of' apologize for his "Good Morning America" outburst the following day on BET's "106 & Park" talk show.
"I felt like they told us this just so they could get us on the show to exploit me," Brown said. "That's what I thought. So I kind of took it very, very hard. And I kept my composure throughout the interview, although you could see me upset, you know. I kept my composure and did my performances, and when I got back, I just let off, like, steam in the back ? I just had to release the anger that I had inside me, because I felt like I worked so hard for this music."
Brown had pleaded guilty to felony assault for attacking Rihanna in 2009 and was sentenced to five years of probation and six months of community service. Brown completed a court-mandated domestic violence course in December 2010. After the confrontation, Rihanna obtained a restraining order against Brown. In February it was downgraded to a lower level.
"F.A.M.E.," which Brown says stands for "Fans Are My Everything" and "Forgiving All My Enemies." marks the R& B singer's 4th album, will be followed by a second CD entitled "Fortune," which Brown plans to release later in the year. The album features collaborations with hip hop artists Lil Wayne, Ludacris and Busta Rhymes as well as with teen pop star Justin Bieber.
Brown performed on March 29 on the first elimination show of ABC's "Dancing With The Stars" season 12 and received a standing ovation from the crowd.
On Wednesday, Brown thanked his fans on Twitter for making his album No. 1, "I wanna thank all of my fans for making my album number 1 in the country!! I love you! We did it."
Brown will embark on his F.A.M.E. Tour beginning in Australia in April 2011.
