OTRC: Katie Holmes explains Suri's 'boy-part' gummies incident

Katie Holmes has spoken out about recent tabloid photos that showed her daughter Suri holding a box of gummies shaped like the male sex organ.

"I took her to get ice cream in New York at this place called Serendipity [3] that we go to all the time, Holmes, 32, said on an "Ellen DeGeneres Show" episode that is set to air on Friday, April 1. "It's for kids. The clientele is children."

"We go in, and we are waiting for a table, and she grabs some gummies that are boy-part gummies and I was horrified. I said, oh, wow, those aren't Swedish Fish!"

Holmes, who is currently promoting her new miniseries "The Kennedys," was not thrilled about the notion of having to explain the birds and the bees to Suri, who is 5 years old.

"She was holding the box and I was like, 'Okay, wow, we don't need that right now,'" the actress said. "Because I thought if I said, 'Put that back,' then she was going to say, 'What is it?' And I didn't want to have that conversation.'"

A spokesperson for Serendipity 3, addressed the incident on the shop's Facebook page, saying: "No, she did not buy the gummies," a message said.

"The Kennedys" is set to air on April 3 on ReelzChannel and features Holmes as Jacqueline Kennedy, wife of assassinated President John F. Kennedy. The actress appeared with husband and Suri's father Tom Cruise, 48, at the miniseries' Los Angeles premiere earlier this week (see photos).

In January, the History Channel yanked the 8-episode project, which had a multimillion dollar production budget, from its lineup, saying the project did not fit the "History brand."

The cable networks Showtime, Starz, FX and more had also reportedly turned down offers to air the miniseries. The real-life Kennedy family and associates felt its scripts are inaccurate and overly critical, the Associated Press said.

The actress rose to fame playing Joey on the 1990s teen series "Dawson's Creek." In addition to "The Kennedys," Holmes has been concentrating on her movie career and is set to return to the big screen in 2011 in the film "The Son of No One" and "Don't Be Afraid of the Dark." She is also currently filming "Jack and Jill" with Adam Sandler and Al Pacino.
