After some contestants struggled their way through singing duets on Thursday's "American Idol," three contestants received the lowest votes during the fifth results show of the 10th season and two were eliminated. Check out the recap below to find out who was sent packing and tell us who you think should win the competition. Warning: Spoiler alert!
The show started off with Lauren Alaina and Scotty McCreery singing "I Told You So," which Carrie Underwood sang with Randy Travis. Naima Adedapo and Jacob Lusk then sang Ashford & Simpson's "Solid," which landed Adedapo in the bottom three.
Fantasia Barrino, who won the third season of "American Idol" in 2004, performed her new single, "Collard Greens and Cornbread" on the show. At the end of the song, Fantasia gave a shout-out to judge Steven Tyler saying, "Steven, I love you!"
Haley Reinhart, Thia Megia and Pia Toscano sang Katy Perry's "Teenage Dream." Then Paul McDonald, Casey Abrams, James Durbin and Stefano Langone sang "Band on the Run" with Abrams, Durbin and McDonald on guitar and Langone on keyboard. Paul McDonald landed in the bottom three.
In last week's elimination, the judges voted to save Casey Abrams, which meant that two contestants had to be eliminated this week. This loophole in voting was initiated in season eight but can only be used once, so it should be smooth sailing in the future weeks. The decision did mean that the top 11 contestants will perform on the annual summer "American Idol" tour instead of the top 10.
Naima Adedapo, Thia Megia and Paul McDonald landed in the bottom three. Naima Adedapo and Thia Megia were eventually eliminated.
The 9 finalists that remain are Casey Abrams, Lauren Alaina, James Durbin, Jacob Lusk, Scott McCreery, Haley Reinhart, Stefano Langone, Paul McDonald and Pia Toscano.
