James Franco sent media sites buzzing on Friday after he seemed to shut down his Twitter account.

The news of his account shutting down, which coincidentally happened on April Fool's Day, led many to believe Franco was pulling a gag. However, in an interview with Politico, the actor says he's not off the social networking site just yet, he just set his account to private.

"Social media is over. Still up there. Going down. You heard it here first," the actor said. "My thought was 'this is my Twitter. I can do whatever I want.' But certain companies I work with contacted me about what I was saying."

Franco set up his account just days before he was set to host the Oscars in February with Anne Hathaway. The actor even Tweeted during the ceremony, posting pictures and video.

He also caused a slight fight between himself and Oscars writer Bruce Vilanch, who was not a fan of Franco's Oscars hosting style.
