OTRC: 'Hop' jumps to first place at Friday's box office

The Easter-themed animated film "Hop" has taken the lead at the weekend box office with a strong opening on Friday, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The film took home $11.4 million on Friday to take the top spot for the day. The film features the voice of Russell Brand as the Easter Bunny.

"Hop" follows Brand's teenage bunny E.B., who runs away to become a drummer in Los Angeles instead of taking over his father's (Hugh Laurie) duties as Easter Bunny at his chocolate factory. Fred (James Marsden), an out-of-work slacker accidentally hits E.B. with his car and ends up taking him in as he recovers. Turns out, the army of chicks who work in the factory have plans to take over Easter and E.B. has to fight to stop their evil plans.

Meanwhile Jake Gyllenhaal's latest box office effort, "Source Code," landed in second place earning $5 million on Friday. However the film 'Insidious,' which was directed by "Saw" director James Wan, is nipping at its heels in third place with an estimated $4.8 million.

Bradley Cooper's "Limitless" came in fourth place with a $3 million haul and as earned a total of $49.2 million during its box office run. Last week's box office winner "Diary of a Wimpy Kid" fell to fifth place for the weekend so far, earning $2.8 million on Friday, bringing its total gross to $49.2 million.
