Carolyn Hennesy says her "Cougar Town" character, Barb, may try something a little different when it comes to her love life next season.Warning: Spoiler Alert!
"I've heard rumors that Barb, my character, might have an actual age-appropriate relationship, but apparently it does not sit well with her so I think she fights against it," Hennesy told OnTheRedCarpet.com host Rachel Smith at an event promoting her new book "The Secret Life of Damian Spinelli," which is based on a character from her other show, "General Hospital."
Hennesy plays Barbra "Barb" Coman, an over-the-top cougar, realtor and the character that puts out hilarious one-liners. Hennesy says she hopes great comedy comes out of Barb fighting against the new relationship.
"Hopefully we're going to see some more comedy gold, you know, out of Barb fighting against this. A little more sedate, a little more, you know, stoic," she said. "A little more, you know, just sort of conscientious about the way she acts. I think Barb, hopefully, will react poorly to that."
Hennesy says "Cougar Town" is set to pick-up when the ABC show, "Mr. Sunshine," starring Matthew Perry, finishes its run. It was announced in January that ABC had renewed "Cougar Town" for a third season, which is set to begin on April 18 after "Dancing with the Stars," before moving to its regular time, Wednesdays at 9:30 p.m. ET central, on April 20.
On "Cougar Town," Barb works at the same real estate office as Jules Cobb, played by Courtney Cox. They are both cougars, despite Barb being older.
Hennesy's character was last seen on the second-to-last episode of season two. Barb talked to Jules about yet another one of her crazy sex stories. Jules got irritated with Barb and told her she in no longer a 40-something-year-old hottie chasing after younger men.
"Cougar Town" is currently filming in Hawaii for the final episode of season two. Hennesy told OnTheRedCarpet.com that Barb is not one of the characters that got to travel to the islands.
"Barb is holding down the fort back in Gulf Haven," she said. "Okay, Barb is really sort of on the loose drinking several Mai Tais per hour."Reporting by Rachel Smith, co-host of KABC Television's entertainment show "On The Red Carpet" (check for local TV listings).
