Sara Rue recently donned a bikini for the first time in her life after losing 50 pounds on the Jenny Craig weight loss and diet program and called the experience "liberating."
Rue, 32, showcased her new bikini body during a photo shoot for People magazine.
"It was really fun and very liberating," Rue told OnTheRedCarpet.com host Chris Balish. "I was terrified to do it but ultimately it was a very positive experience and for someone who's never been in a bikini and for someone who didn't think they cared, I cared and it was really fun."
Rue has battled with her weight through her career, whose highlights include the sitcom "Less Than Perfect" with Sherri Shepherd of "The View" and Zachary Levi of "Chuck," as well as the defunct drama series "Eastwick."
She is also the host of the CW reality contest show "Shedding For the Wedding" and is set to appear with Barry Watson of "7th Heaven" fame in the ABC Family movie "My Future Boyfriend," which airs on Sunday, April 10 at 8 p.m. ET.
Rue became a spokesmodel for Jenny Craig in December 2009. The actress has maintained her weight after dropping the pounds, her spokesperson said.
"When I signed up for the program, I was in kind of a dark place," Rue told OnTheRedCarpet.com. "I just said to my consultant, 'I will do whatever you tell me to do. I just said, 'I'm not good at this, you're the expert, tell me what to do' and I did it and it worked."
Rue said in August 2010 that she plans to remain a size 6 following her weight loss.
In October, Rue ran her first half marathon.
In "My Future Boyfriend," Watson, 36, plays a man from a future where love does not exist. He time-travels to the present day in search of a romance novelist, played by Rue, in hopes that she can explain the concept. The television film also features Valerie Harper and Fred Willard.
Rue is keeping busy with another project - she and her friend recently sold a "Facebook horror movie" to a film studio.
"We took it to a writer and we sold it and hopefully they're turn it into an awesome movie," Rue said.
Rue is also keeping busy planning her May wedding to teacher Kevin Price. She was previously married for documentary filmmaker Mischa Livingstone. The couple divorced in 2007 after six years.
